What's Nico Live priority seating?

Priority seating in live broadcasts is determined by your account status.

Please keep in mind that depending on your account status and other factors,
you may be kicked from popular programs that have exceeded the maximum amount
of viewers allowed.

Please be aware that if a live broadcast is full, even premium members may be
unable to participate.

Official / user / free channel live broadcast priority level

How do I watch official broadcasts in high quality?

The following 2 types of live broadcasts denoted with the high quality mark next to
the title can be viewed in high quality:

・Free Official Broadcasts: Available to premium members (live or timeshifted).
・Paid Official Broadcasts: Available with a net ticket or gift code (live or timeshifted).

Due to high quality images putting strain on your computer, a link enabling you to
switch back to low quality mode is located on the lower portion of the Nico Live Player
should you experience any issues.

N.B.
Please note that official broadcasts only available to premium members
cannot be watched in low quality.

How do I hide advertisements before a broadcast?

Advertisements are displayed above the video player when accessing a
live broadcast page.
Premium members can hide advertisements from the settings found in the
system tab.

How to Hide Advertisements
(1) Click the System tab on the upper right of the video player
(2) Check Hide ads

Posting comments

The color, size, and placement of comments can be personalized to your liking from the
customize box located to the left of the comment entry field.

What is secret mode (secret comments)?

Putting a check in the option Enable secret mode on the video player
allows you to comment with an encrypted account ID.

Secret comments from other users can be displayed by putting a check in
the Show secret comments from the player's filter settings tab.

Account ID encryption is changed once a week for reasons of security.

If you have added any users using secret mode to your block list, then
please be sure to add them again.

How do I hide certain comments?

User comments can be hidden in two ways: By specific word and by user account.

The word block entry limit is 40 for free members and 200 for premium members.

Why does the watch page comment count and actual count differ?

A regular room and observation deck are created even if a user
broadcast does not reach 1000 viewers. Therefore, administrative
comments and command figures broadcast to each room differ.

・Posting abusive language specified by broadcasters or Niconico.

How do I post/view comments on Twitter while watching a broadcast?

Viewing Comments
(1) Click the "t" tab on the top right of the Nico Live Player.
If the broadcast does not have any Twitter posts yet, you will be shown a posting guide.
If the broadcast has comments, you will be able to see a list.

Posting Comments
You can post comments to Twitter when Twitter Mode is selected.

(1) Click the Twitter Authentication button and you will be taken to Twitter.
(3) Input your Twitter Account details and accept to link your account.
(4) Change to Twitter Mode by clicking the "t" on the comment panel.
(5) Write a comment and it will be posted on Twitter.
(6) The following hashtags will be set automatically.

The broadcaster can also define optional hashtags.
・Channel ID (#ch○)
・Community ID (#co○)

Unlinking Twitter
(1) Click the "t" tab on the top right of the Nico Live Player
(2) From Account Information, click Unlink Twitter
(3) You will be taken to the Twitter site. Follow the provided steps to unlink your account.

・ Twitter's API may become inaccessible without prior notification to reduce server load.
・ Twitter posts may fail due to problems with the Twitter service.
We do not offer support for these errors.
・ To Safari browser users - please turn "Disable pop-ups" off.

Help! I can't watch broadcasts!

If live broadcast video playback fails, adjusting your computer settings can often
remedy the issue.

Please try the following:

Since changing browser or security software settings can affect how you view
other sites, please do this at your own risk.

Also, how settings are changed differs between software and browser versions
so please see each manual for further information.

Refresh the page multiple times or avoiding peak traffic hours (at night)

Make sure your computer date and time settings are correct

Use a PC that meets Nico Live's system requirements and/or a separate browser

Close any extra browser windows

As each browser is different, deleting these files may erase the video player's stored data.

Enable cookies
Adjust Internet Explorer security settings
Delete/reinstall Adobe Flash Player
Change security software settings
Note that some security software restricts access to certain settings.

Why is playback choppy when watching/broadcasting?

Choppy Broadcast Playback
Server regulations may cause video images to become unstable when
using external tools to broadcast at a much higher bitrate than the set
amount (approximately 350 kbps).

If this issue arises when using Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder (FME),
please refer to the >Adobe Systems website for assistance.

Choppy Video Playback
・Excessive blocked users/words
An excessive amount of blocked users and/or words puts a large burden
on the server, resulting in slowdown.

・High bitrate broadcasting
Server regulations may cause video images to become unstable when
using external tools to broadcast at a much higher bitrate than the set
amount (approximately 350 kbps).

The following live broadcasts are not supported on mobile phones
due to specifications and performance standards.

・Broadcasts with videos customized by a broadcaster
・Broadcasts where the community avatar and/or broadcast content is deemed offensive according to mobile phone corporations and other pertinent corporations.

Why are Nico Live Player functions being restricted?

If the Nico Live Player fails to connect to the message server required to load
data for posting/displaying comments, the player will switch to video only mode.

A dialogue indicating that features are currently restricted will appear and
while video playback will continue as usual, posting/displaying of comments
will be disabled.

Try the following to remedy this:

・Open ports listed in the system requirements

Why can't I get a seat in a broadcast?

You will sometimes get a message that you couldn't get a seat or
that you got kicked from a live broadcast.

Try the following if you are experiencing this issue.

・Close any other browsers or tabs

・Close the live broadcast page

・Restart your browser and computer

・See the help page for system requirements
and try using a different browser.

Help! Videos are freezing/browser is crashing!

If any of the following should occur, it could be caused by your browser or Adobe Flash Player.
・Video player freezes
・Video player layout break up
・Video player only displays "Now Loading"
・Browser automatically quits

Please try the following to remedy these issues:

From the C drive select "disk cleanup" and delete the "Temporary Internet
Files" and "Temporary Files".

Increase browser caching
If browser caching is set to low, your browser's cache will be updated too soon, which may result in the video player taking a long time to appear.
Keep in mind that increasing caching uses up space on your computer's hard drive.

Try a different Niconico-recommended browser

Reinstall/delete Adobe Flash Player

Change Adobe Flash Player version
The video player is prone to freeze if the version of Adobe Flash Player being used is incompatible.

Right click on the video player and select Settings. Uncheck the
"Enable hardware acceleration" option.


Clear Adobe Flash Player's "local website storage"
An abnormal website storage area may cause the video player to freeze.

From the Adobe Systems website, go to the Website Storage Area Settings Panel
delete the following "visited websites".
After deleting the visited sites, click "allow" when prompted if you
want to allow use of the website storage area.

・Video Player: www.nicovideo.jp、res.nimg.jp
・Nico Live Player: live.nicovideo.jp
・Nico Ads Advertisement Preferences Screen: uad.nicovideo.jp
・Nico App Player: www.nicovideo.jp, res.nimg.jp、
Any domains with the ".storage.nicoapp.jp" domain.
* Note that the .storage.nicoapp.jp domain is individually managed by applications and several instances may exist.
・Sites with external players such as mixi: ext.nicovideo.jp

Adobe Flash Player.

Why are my player settings resetting when I close my browser?

Closing the browser while using Adobe Flash Player 10.3 or later versions
while using private mode (feature that deletes the view function when the
browser is closed) causes the video player settings to reset.

Examples
・Nico Video: Resets video auto-start / volume settings.
・Nico Live: Resets Secret Mode settings.

If you are not using private mode and experience the above issues,
please try the following:

(1) Right click on the video player<br>
(2) Click Global Settings<br>
(3) Select the local memory tab<br>
(4) Check allow data to be saved on your computer from this site
Also try the solution below.
(1) Right click on the video player and select Settings
(2) Uncheck Don't show this again and move the slider to Don't restrict furthest to the right
(3) Click Close
(4) Restart your browser

What happens if I get 10,000 Twitter followers?

If you are a user with 10,000 or more twitter followers,
your comments can be displayed on the Nico Live player
in a more prominent area.

How do I use Nico Live Alerts?

Nico Live Alert is a tool you can install on your computer to receive
alerts whenever an official broadcast, joined community broadcast, or
followed channel broadcast begins.

Why can't I install Nico Live Alerts?

If you do not have Adobe (R) AIR (R) runtime installed,
visit Adobe System's website here.

Note that Adobe (R) AIR runtime may not install correctly
on some systems such as those with encrypted hard drives.

or concerns.

Why aren't Nico Live alerts properly working?

Unable to Connect
Nico Live Alert utilizes the following ports for communication: 843 and 2525 through 2544.
If any of these ports are closed due to programs such as security software, please
open them.

Note that ports 2545 and beyond may be used in the future as well.

Contact your security software developer and/or provider for details on how to open ports.

Alert Thumbnail Hidden
During peak traffic hours thumbnail data may fail to load.

As this could be caused by corrupted cache files, try deleting>
the image files stored in the following directories.

・Windows

Why are there strange items in my watch history?

Your watch history is affected when someone (a family member, friend, etc.)
accesses your account.

■How to Delete Watch History
・Video: Click Delete all history
・Live Broadcasts: Click the delete history button or X button on a program

■Other Causes
・Accidentally clicking an item
・A broadcaster is using a custom function during a broadcast
・A quick-loading tool or Firefox add-on is enabled
・NicoScript is being used for an item you watched or browsed (@CM or @BGM)

I haven't received a winner notification/prize

Prizes for winners in Nico Live programs will be shipped
as described below:

Winners will be contacted within two weeks, while prizes will be shipped
approximately 3 months after the drawing.

(1) Winners will be announced during a program
(2) Winners will be notified via their account email address approximately 2 weeks later
・Notifications will be sent from the domain @niwango.co.jp, so make sure your email client
is configured appropriately.
・If you are unable to access your account email, please change your account email address
by accessing your "Account Settings" from your My Page.

Why am I getting email duplicates from Niconico?

If you are receiving duplicates of email notices from Niconico,
it could be due to the following:

・Emails are being forwarded with email software or another program
・Email copies are configured to periodically remain on the POP3
server and multiple instances of an email are being downloaded
・The server responsible for email delivery is resending for an
unknown reason.

Also keep in mind that the same email is sent to each email address
registered with Niconico.

Why is my account frozen?

As described in the Niconico Service Terms of Use, any confirmed
violations may result in suspension of some services.

You will be notified through your account email address should any
services be suspended. A list of suspended services including the
term and reason for suspension can be found at that service's webpage.

Please bear in mind that we are unable to respond to inquiries regarding
suspension policies.

Niconico would like to request that everyone follows the rules to ensure that all
Niconico services remain an entertaining experience.
